Diaspora News Sourcing & Corrections

Diaspora News Sourcing & Corrections

Ukraine Europe Dispatch covers Ukrainian communities across Europe. That means reporting from Berlin, Warsaw, Prague, London, Paris, and dozens of smaller hubs where Ukrainians live, work, and organize. Our sourcing reflects that reality.

We do not have a newsroom in the traditional sense. Instead, we work with a network of contributors who are themselves part of the diaspora. Some are journalists. Others are community organizers, translators, or professionals who happen to be on the ground. Every piece we publish includes a note on who reported it and where. You should always know whether the information came from a local organization, a government source, a community leader, or firsthand observation.

How we verify

Stories from the diaspora often involve multiple languages and jurisdictions. When we report on a protest in Warsaw or a cultural event in Lisbon, we confirm the details with at least two independent sources. For official matters like residency policy changes or consular updates, we link directly to the relevant government page and note the date we accessed it.

We treat community-submitted announcements differently. If a Ukrainian association in Italy sends us an event notice, we publish it as a bulletin and label it clearly. We do not rewrite community announcements as reported news. The distinction matters.

Corrections policy

We get things wrong sometimes. A date, a name, a translation. When that happens, we correct the record openly. Corrections appear at the top of the affected article with a brief explanation of what changed and why. We do not silently edit.

To report an error, email [email protected]. Include the article title and what you believe is inaccurate. We aim to review and respond within one business day.

What we do not do

  • We do not publish unverified social media posts as news.
  • We do not use anonymous sources unless the contributor faces genuine risk, and we explain why.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage. Sponsored content is clearly marked as such and is limited to community event listings.
  • We do not outsource fact-checking to automated tools. Every verification is done by a human.

This policy was last updated in January 2025. It applies to all content published under the Ukraine Europe Dispatch name, regardless of format or platform.
